The Fruit of the Spirit - Bible Study Series $64.00

In a digital age, Bible metaphors about agriculture sometimes are confusing. When many of us think of church growth, we focus on things getting bigger. But the Bible tells us that we are supposed to get better: to grow, mature, and "bear fruit." To help people to understand just the kind of fruit God expects from maturing Christians, MovieBibleStudy created this Fruit of the Spirit Bible Study Series. Each study incorporates a film clip (from readily available DVDs) that illustrates some aspect of each kind of fruit. Using clips temporarily takes the focus off the participant and allows them to examine situations involving others. Then the study drives them toward the Scriptures where they can hear about the types of fruit from Galatians 5 and then look at other passages that illuminate them. Finally, each participant is challenged to put growth inhibiting attitudes and behaviors aside, and grow into the man or woman God intends them to be.

The Fruit of the Spirit Bible Study Series contains the following ten individual studies:

1. "Why Should I Study the Fruit of the Spirit?"
Uses a scene from In Good Company to lead to a discussion using passages from John 15 and Galatians 5 about why bearing fruit for God's Kingdom is important, and what we need to make it happen.

2. Love
Uses a scene from Freaky Friday to lead to a discussion using passages from Luke 10 and 15, and Galatians 5 to look at how roots of compassion are fundamental to growth in love.

3. Joy
Uses a scene from Seabiscuit to lead to a discussion using passages from Genesis 1, Romans 8, Ephesians 1, Psalm 51, and Luke 10 about what human beings were created to be and do, and how we can rediscover heartfelt enthusiasm to fulfill our reason for being.

4. Peace
Uses a scene from Step Into Liquid to lead to a discussion using passages from Matthew 18, Hebrews 12, and Ephesians 2 about the danger of bitterness, and how a connection to Jesus brings forgiveness and peace.

5. Patience
Uses a scene from The Terminal to lead to a discussion using passages from Exodus 3, Hebreass 11, Deuteronomy 34, Matthew 17, and Romans 8 about seeing God's promises, recognizing their truth, and cultivating an ability to wait on God for their fulfillment.

6. Kindness
Uses a scene from Bella to lead to a discussion using passages from John 8, Ephesians 4, Galatians 6, and James 1 about how to reject our culture's glorification of things that are "tough" and "hard," in order to recover the real strength that comes from caring for those who are in trouble.

7. Goodness
Uses a scene from The Question of God: Sigmund Freud and C.S. Lewis -- Program 2 to lead to a discussion using passages from Romans 1, Romans 2, Hebrews 9 and Ephesians 2 to explore how knowledge of God leads to understanding of sin, and how God's regenerative power in Christ enables us to escape the power of sin and, instead, to do good.

8. Faithfulness
Uses a scene from Lord of the Rings: Return of the King to lead to a discussion using passages from Exodus 17 and Mark 15 and 16 to grasp what it takes to be constant and loyal, both to our friends, and, more especially, to God.

9. Gentleness
Uses a scene from Walk the Line to lead to a discussion using passages from Galatians 5 and 1 Peter 3 to understand how, with God's empowering, to properly reach out to fragile people caught up in sin, and how to avoid becoming tangled up in sin ourselves.

10. Self Control
Uses a scene from the classic To Kill A Mockingbird to lead to a discussion using passages from Romans 12, Proverbs 16, Hebrews 12, and Genesis 4 to show how personal vengeance never satisfies, and how, through God's discipline, we can learn to control ourselves.
